Many members of the CFFCS teach on Birkbeck’s MA/MRes Comparative Literary and Cultural Studies (Modern Languages) and the centre is closely linked to the French strand and comparative aspects of the programme.

The CFFCS is also closely associated with the  PhD programme in French Studies. We encourage interdisciplinary postgraduate research work within our academic staff members’ areas of expertise:

French and francophone cinema,
nineteenth-century French poetry and novel (especially Baudelaire and Mallarmé),
nineteenth- and twentieth-century French intellectual history,
notions of evil and ethics in French literature and thought,
